What is Somatic Therapy?

Developmental or acute survival stress creates coping mechanisms that manifest as personality traits, behavioral patterns, and even physical ailments.

Discomfort in daily life—such as overwhelming emotions, triggers, addiction, anxiety, depression, or repeated problematic behaviors—can often be traced back to unresolved emotional blockages, traumas, and unprocessed experiences stored in the subconscious.

Somatic Therapy offers a way to explore and address these deep-seated wounds, that aren’t accessible from our conscious mind. By utilizing body-mind practices, this therapy helps access blocked memories and stored tensions, uncovering limiting beliefs and survival patterns. Unlike cognitive analysis, Somatic Therapy works from the bottom up, activating the body’s memory to release trapped emotions and bring awareness to these patterns.

This approach allows you to shed protective layers and reintegrate abandoned parts of yourself, guiding you back to your authentic self expression and an ease in speaking your truth and identifying and meeting your own needs.

What a Session Might Include

Curiosity, Compassion and Liberation

Sessions begin with a check-in conversation where you share the sources of tension or discomfort in your life.

I will then guide you through body-mind practices to shift focus from analytical awareness to physical sensitivity. We’ll work on creating safe resources and kinesthetic anchors, essential tools for self-regulation and building a personal toolkit for managing your own body and mind.

Once your nervous system is regulated, we will reintroduce the triggers or tensions into your awareness. This process, guided by both your experiences and my support, may bring up physical sensations, qualities, emotions, symbolic imagery, or memories. This intuitive approach helps uncover the root of these issues.

I may guide you to interact with emerging memories, feelings, or imagery, or explore physical postures, movements or phrases, all while observing your responses.

We might uncover layers of emotions or numbness, giving space for them to be acknowledged and fully felt. This can lead to catharsis and clarity about your core needs, enhancing your ability to express and meet them.

The goal is to explore with curiosity, accept everything without judgment, and work towards dissolving past wounds to reconnect with the liberated essence of your true, expressive self.

Sessions can be conducted via Skype, allowing you to participate from the comfort and safety of your own space. Typically, sessions last 90 minutes.

For in-person appointments, they can be complemented with an additional somatic massage to enhance physiological discharge and integration.
